More Than a Closing: Why Our Partnership with NCCJ Is Personal

Some community partnerships begin with an introduction.

Others begin decades before you ever imagine there will be a partnership at all.

For Thoughtful Closings founder Michael Newell, his connection to NCCJ began when he was a high school student and had the opportunity to participate in Anytown, NCCJ’s youth leadership program.

That experience makes our partnership with NCCJ particularly meaningful today.

About NCCJ

North Carolina for Community and Justice, better known throughout the Triad as NCCJ, has been working to build more compassionate communities since 1937.

Through youth leadership, educational, workplace, and community programming, NCCJ creates opportunities for people to better understand one another, engage in meaningful conversations, appreciate different perspectives, and find common ground.

At the heart of that work is a belief we share at Thoughtful Closings: strong communities don’t simply happen. They are built intentionally, through connection, understanding, and people willing to invest in one another.

A Full-Circle Connection

Long before Thoughtful Closings existed, Michael experienced NCCJ’s mission firsthand as a participant in Anytown.

Anytown brings together high school students from different backgrounds for an immersive week focused on leadership, communication, community, and understanding. Students are encouraged to share their experiences, listen to others' perspectives, navigate difficult conversations respectfully, and consider how they can create positive change when they return to their schools and communities.

For Michael, supporting NCCJ through Thoughtful Closings brings that experience full circle.

An organization that invested in him as a young person is now an organization he can invest in.

And that is exactly the kind of connection we hoped Thoughtful Closings would create.

Why This Partnership Matters to Us

Real estate is inherently about community.

Yes, we help people buy and sell property.
